Sharing the True Meaning of Hospitality.

Overview
Calgary is famed for its legendary hospitality. So shouldn’t the website for its airport be as welcoming and accessible as the city? In 2024, the YYC Calgary International Airport website needed to be updated to modern accessibility standards to truly reflect Calgary’s spirit of inclusivity.
Challenge
By their definition, airports need to serve a large amount of stakeholders locally, nationally, and internationally. Factoring in accessibility compliance for a literal globeful of travellers while considering ESL needs, integration with multiple formats adhering to global standards, and optimization for low-level technology access was a sizable undertaking.
Insight
Simplicity is the key to universal comprehension. After determining specific wants and needs through in-depth primary research and stakeholder consultation, we constructed a sitemap that was complex in its breadth but easy to navigate on an individual level thanks to ruthless UX testing. We then populated it with carefully-chosen language that was informative and engaging.
Results
"We successfully launched the YYC website on budget and on schedule, achieving all desired objectives and more," says WJ's Technology Director, Jason Kessler. "The new website not only meets international accessibility standards, it positions YYC as an innovative, customer-centric hub and strengthens their overall global brand. This is driving an improvement in overall satisfaction among passengers, stakeholders, and partners."
